How DeputyWise works

You do not need to be an accountant to keep clear deputyship records. DeputyWise brings the day-to-day entries, supporting documents and report preparation together. Here is the workflow when you have access.

  1. Add your deputyship details

Use your Court of Protection order to record your deputyship details. Add the accounts you manage and confirm the reporting period for your annual report. Use the dates given for your deputyship, rather than assuming they match the tax year.

  2. Keep your records up to date

Record income, spending and transfers with dates, categories and descriptions. Attach receipts and compare your entries with bank statements regularly. If an entry is wrong, record a correction so the original and the change remain traceable. Keep relevant documents and deadlines up to date.

  3. Prepare, check and submit

Bring together the records for your reporting period to prepare annual-report information. Check the figures against your statements and source documents, and review any missing information. With your review complete, you submit the report through the Office of the Public Guardian's (OPG's) own channels.

Common questions

Who is DeputyWise for?

Lay Property and Financial Affairs deputies appointed by the Court of Protection in England and Wales. You do not need an accounting background to keep your records here.

Does it send my report to the OPG?

No. DeputyWise helps you prepare records and report information. You check the information and submit through the OPG's own channels.

Can it tell me what my court order allows?

Your order is the source of your powers. DeputyWise helps you record what you do within those powers. Contact the OPG for guidance about your duties, and seek independent professional advice from a solicitor if you need help interpreting the order.

Does recording a transaction make a payment?

No. DeputyWise records money movements; it does not move money between bank accounts or pay bills. Continue to use your bank's own services to make payments and transfers.

Can I rely on reminders alone?

Use reminders alongside your own diary and checks of your reporting period, OPG correspondence and bond documents. They help you keep recorded dates in view; coverage and delivery are not guaranteed, and you remain responsible for meeting deadlines.
