What DeputyWise does and does not do
DeputyWise helps you organise the day-to-day work and prepare a clear account of your deputyship. Here is how the tool supports you, alongside your Court of Protection order and current guidance from the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG).
What it helps you do
DeputyWise helps you keep clear records and prepare annual-report information. It does not give legal, financial or tax advice.
- Record income and spending, and attach receipts as you go.
- Review your transactions by account and category.
- Track dates for reports, fees and security-bond payments.
- Bring your records together, then check the figures against your bank statements.
Your decisions, clearly recorded
Keep a clear record of spending, gifts, investments and property transactions to explain what happened and why. Your order defines your powers, and decisions must be in the client's best interests. Recording an action is not permission to take it. We can help with recording it in DeputyWise; seek independent professional advice where needed to establish your authority or assess the decision.
Reminders support your own checks
Reminders help you keep relevant dates in view. Match recorded dates to your reporting period, OPG correspondence and bond documents, and keep your own diary. Reminders depend on the information recorded; coverage and delivery are not guaranteed. You remain responsible for meeting deadlines.
Working together towards your annual report
Your Court of Protection order, the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and relevant guidance from the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) guide your work. You must act within your order, follow the Act and have regard to that guidance. We support your record-keeping; contact the OPG for guidance about your duties and seek independent professional advice where a decision needs legal, financial or tax expertise.
DeputyWise brings your records together for review. You check and submit your report through the OPG's own channels and remain responsible for your deputyship duties. Submission is a step you complete with the OPG, rather than through DeputyWise.
Regular checks against bank statements, receipts and other source documents help you prepare an accurate report. Before you submit, check that your figures match those documents and that your report details are complete and up to date.
DeputyWise is not endorsed by the OPG or the Court of Protection.
Keeping your documents
DeputyWise helps you keep receipts and supporting documents alongside your records, making them easier to review and use when preparing your annual report.
Keep original documents and independent copies of important records for as long as they are needed for your deputyship duties. If you are unsure about a particular record, check your Court of Protection order and seek independent professional advice where needed.
Our document-retention policy is being finalised before early access opens. It will explain how long documents remain available, what happens when you delete a document or close your account, and how backups and any legal retention requirements affect deletion.
The tool and the community
DeputyCo is the community. DeputyWise is the tool. DeputyCo is building peer support for lay deputies to share practical experience. Keep discussions anonymous to protect the person you support. Shared experience complements your own checks and independent professional advice where needed.
